Thanks

Thanks for all the the thoughts and input Bro.'s. I have decided to let him play. May he always seek to glorify God in his life.

One thought that I never really considered was: "What would I do if he was offered a scholarship by LSU" (right now he has some D-II schools wanting him)?

I would've said yes, and been ecstatic about it. However when he goes to college, any college, they play or practice every Sunday-what then?

Bro. Wilkes, I know God has blessed your wife in her decision, and I believe she made the right decision, but would you deny your sons the opportunity to play college baseball?

If so, why? I find it hard to have practiced hours with my boys and to have always driven them to be the best they can be, if they can not pursue it.

What about armed forces, we would never question a young man's commitment to church or God if he joins the navy. Yet, he just signed a 4 year vacancy from the church pew. I'm not saying anyone has, I'm just kinda thinking out loud:)

I believe his faith is strong in the Lord, and I know he will make mistakes along the way. But, I trust that his decisions will reflect his Savior. Please pray for him, that his faith would never waiver. Thanks again.

Does God Promote Sports?

Since I have been in seminary, I have been tutored, lectured and advised to never neglect my family. Furthermore, to place my family only second to God. I've also been advised to allow my kids freedom (within reason) to live their childhood life.
Two of my boys love the game of baseball, they play year-round. And on occasion, I have allowed them to play on Sundays. Right or wrong, I made the decision to allow them the opportunity to play. In todays time, nearly all tournaments involve Sunday play. Since, I have surrendered to preach, I have limited their Sunday absences to only State tournaments (somehow in my mind these are more important).
I now find myself asking the question, when is enough, enough? My oldest, Dalton, was recruited by a Shreveport select team to play in the Select World Series in Fayetteville, Ark, due to an injury of a player. A scout for the San Diego Padres manages this team, he has called me and offered Dalton a spot on his team. At first, I'm happy for him, until I find out that they will be playing on at least 7 Sundays throughout the summer and the fact that the cost is more than I have in my savings account.
The coach pitches this "opportunity of a lifetime" speech. This is his junior year, this is the time he has to get his name across the country. They'll be playing at 7 college parks from Texas to Alabama with numerous college and pro scouts there. As well as dropping the price to $1000, which is still more than I really can afford, my wife has the philosophy that if you spend this much on one, you have to spend that much on the others. I have $4$ kids now!!!
But back to the major point, 7 SUNDAYS. Dalton is the type of kid who never asks for much, but he has asked to play. I know how colleges recruit, only about 30% of kids really get looked at by their high school stats. All colleges prefer "select" stats over high school, because of the level of competition.
People are offering him donations to pay for the cost, and my wife has approved of it, if he will raise the money. But, I find myself asking the question, Would God want his children playing sports at any level? All of our kids play little league, but if your child had the opportunity to play at the next level, would God want him to?
Give me some thoughts fellows, when is enough-enough? How can I preach Heb. 10:25 and allow my son to play a game and forsake the assembling?

Time for a tic tac

Just recently got busted for possession (of shed antlers), sold my NIV bibles to bond out. Tried to sell my KJV, but I couldn't get anything for them. :)
I've been reading everyones posts, just haven't been posting. I've been kinda scared with JamesCharles lurking around, nah, just trying to get caught up on schoolwork. Only a couple of weeks left.

I do have a question that maybe my brethren can shed some knowledge on, this includes you Bro. JamesCharles :)

Why did Jesus breathe on His disciples and say, "receive ye the Holy Ghost" (John 20:22)
Some charismatics use this verse to try to say these disciples "got saved," (wow). The most common thought that I've come across is that this was a prelude to the day of Pentecost. What is meant by "prelude?" I know the definition, but what are they saying, that they got a taste, a sample and then it was taken away: when? where?
What are your thoughts? I'll be waiting for your posts while I finish my community service.

Getting Started

Alright, what's all the fuss about. Finally figured out how to get this blog to working. Wendy has facebooks, my spaces and blogs, and apparently blogspot had a problem with the setup and our email address.
I've read some blogs and comments, cannot guarantee highly educated responses, but at least they'll be spelled correctly.
