Thanks

Thanks for all the the thoughts and input Bro.'s. I have decided to let him play. May he always seek to glorify God in his life.

One thought that I never really considered was: "What would I do if he was offered a scholarship by LSU" (right now he has some D-II schools wanting him)?

I would've said yes, and been ecstatic about it. However when he goes to college, any college, they play or practice every Sunday-what then?

Bro. Wilkes, I know God has blessed your wife in her decision, and I believe she made the right decision, but would you deny your sons the opportunity to play college baseball?

If so, why? I find it hard to have practiced hours with my boys and to have always driven them to be the best they can be, if they can not pursue it.

What about armed forces, we would never question a young man's commitment to church or God if he joins the navy. Yet, he just signed a 4 year vacancy from the church pew. I'm not saying anyone has, I'm just kinda thinking out loud:)

I believe his faith is strong in the Lord, and I know he will make mistakes along the way. But, I trust that his decisions will reflect his Savior. Please pray for him, that his faith would never waiver. Thanks again.

  1. I'm not saying anything negative towards your decision what-so-ever, but I do want to correct one statement. Just because someone joins the military does not mean they sign a 4-year non church pew waiver. Both my parents were air-force, and I knew many army/marine brats growing up also.

  2. Bro. Tim,
My comments about my wife's situation were simply a response to Bro. Adrian's comment. He stated that nurses, among others, choose a career in which they know they will have to work Sundays. My attempt was to show that my wife chose the career but would not allow it to force her to habitually miss church and God has blessed her for it.

But not all career(or educational) opportunities offer the flexible scheduling my wife has been blessed with.

So the question you have laid at my door is "would I deny my boys the opportunity to play college ball?" First off, this is a hypothetical and usually answering such questions is not wise. But, it is a fair question.

If one of my boys were afforded the opportunity to play college ball and the possibility of a scholarship for such, it sure would be appealing. Would it have neagtives? Certainly! The most obvious is the one under consideration. But there is no way I can tell you what I would do.

Although I cannot answer your question with an absolute...I can give you one. I do not think you made a wrong decision. I think you made a difficult one. So since I am not presently wearing your uncomfortable shoes, I will not criticize. But on the contrary, I hope the decision You, Wendy and Dalton have made will cause your shoes to fit perfectly, be beneficial to your path and massage your feet as you walk.

By the way, I can't recall if I ever clearly said, "Congratulations"!!!

Dalton, always remember...You may excel on the diamond among your peers, but you remain inferior on the Bogg Springs field. I knew you would find a way to weasel out of playing the men at camp.

  3. Brother Tim, let me know if Dalton is doing any fund-raisers. I'll participate. Love ya brother.

Brother Mike, do you have any foot massaging shoes? If so, I want to run a mile in your shoes. That way, I will have your shoes, and be a mile away from you by the time you try to come get them back.

  4. Brothers, I'm just still trying to reason the situation. I wouldn't say I was uncomfortable with the decision made, but neither am I confident. I guess I'm just trying to justify the decision in my mind. And that is what scares me. (A crack dealer can justify himself in his mind.)

Please pray for my son, he'll be gone all summer traveling from Texas to Florida. I love ya Brothers and I appreciate your concern, advice, wisdom and most especially your prayers.

  5. If you made the right decision, stop worrying about it. Ask God for a peace about it if it is right.

If it is the wrong decision, what then could you do to rectify the situation? Is it changeable? If not, perhaps you should learn and not make the same mistake again. Or perhaps just pray.

Either way, get a peace with God. It's the only way to fly... er... live.

  6. Well, I figure that there is a point in which you must let your children leave the home for a while and see what happens. I believe you raised all of your children in the Lord to the best of your ability. Allow your son to play ball. Just pray that he will make the right decisions based upon years of your guidance. You gotta let them go sometime. One thing I learned is that as a Christian I miss terribly being among other Christians and as a Missionary Baptist I miss being among other Missionary Baptists. I signed up for six years of my life in the Air Force not realizing the sacrifice I had made. I have pretty much sacrificed the best things in life: Family, Church, and Friends. The job is simple, but the people are wicked and our boss is an AntiChrist. Now that I see the folly of my decision, I am gonna find a way back. When I do I will be stronger and more faithful to the Lord. Murphy 2.0 so to speak. Maybe that is what your son needs, to be away from the church element so he can return a stronger and more faithful man of God. I think you did right. Did the father of the prodigal think twice about giving his son his inheritance. No. Was he in the wrong? Never even mentions it. So have peace about the situation. I am coming back soon, be ready to play ball. David L. Murphy

  7. Bro. Tim,

First of all my darling are little so it is easy for me to comment on what I would or would not do, but it is my opinion, which is worth about ten cents, that I would have made the same choice. To me you must take them so far and at some time must allow them to start making some, not all, choices on their own.

Ya'll have raised I good young man. Every time I have been around Dalton he has all ways been extremely respectful and has carried himself in godly ways. He is not perfect, but who is other than Bro. James. :) Joking James love you man. I'll will be praying for him that God will fill him heart with wisdom to make the proper choices. God bless bud and come see me.
